The Shepherds Of Entropy
by Charles Rice Goff III
The recording presented here is an excerpt from a longer original narrative, read by the author. This twisted tale challenges the reader's sensibilities with elements of fantasy, science fiction, humor, philosophy, and sophistry. Goff began writing this narrative in 2010. At of the time of this online posting (September, 2017), he has written much more of it, but he has yet to finish it.
The recording archived here was created in response to the following invitation, sent to Goff by producer, Hal McGee, in late July, 2013:
"Hal McGee presents -- a special microcassette audio mail art project - THE MUSEUM OF MICROCASSETTE ART! Anyone and everyone who owns a microcassette recorder can participate in this special project that celebrates the highly personal audio art form, the microcassette! Email me and tell me your postal address. I will mail to you two 30-minute microcassettes. Fill up one of the microcassettes with absolutely any sounds that you want but please make it exclusive to this project - use your imagination! Decorate the tape, its case and the insert in any way that you want. Mail the recorded microcassette, its case and insert back to me. I will publish the audio from your microcassette and pictures of its cover art in a special online collection. I will collect, archive and catalog all microcassettes received and will proudly display them in my home."
As promised, McGee digitized all the tapes he received and posted recordings of them online, along with photographs of their cover art and the packaging that they were shipped in. "The Shepherds Of Entropy" appears online at the web address below:

At the same time that Goff had his microcassette recorder turned on to capture the reading of his narrative, he also had a digital recorder turned on. This archive contains the first public release of the digital recording made that day, August 23, 2013. Also included in this archive is a transcript of the reading (two pages, offered in both jpeg and pdf formats).
As of September, 2017, other portions of "The Shepherds Of Entropy" have yet to be released to the public .
